Privacy
Para Football World is an archive of para football moments. We want people to trust what they read here, and that starts with being straight about what we collect from you. This page explains it in plain English.

The short version
- You can browse without an account. We don't ask for anything, and we don't run advertising or tracking cookies.
- An account is only needed to add or vote on moments. For that we keep your email address, your username and what you contribute.
- Your username is public. Your email address never is.
- We'll only email you news if you tick the box to say yes, and you can stop at any time.
- We never sell your information.
- You can ask to see, correct or delete your data by writing to privacy@parafootballworld.com.
Who we are
This site is run by Para Football World ("we", "us"). For the purposes of UK data protection law, Para Football World is the controller of the personal information described here. You can contact us about anything on this page at privacy@parafootballworld.com.
If you just browse
We don't ask who you are, and we don't use analytics or advertising trackers. A few things still happen when any website loads, and we'd rather tell you about them:
- Server logs. Our host, Netlify, records technical details of each request (such as your IP address, browser type and the page asked for) to keep the site running and secure. We only look at these to deal with abuse or faults.
- Settings kept in your own browser. The site remembers your language, how you like lists sorted, which moments you've liked, and any tag you've written that hasn't finished sending. These are stored on your device using your browser's local storage, are never sent to us as a profile, and you can clear them at any time through your browser settings.
- Fonts. The site's typeface is loaded from Google Fonts, so your browser contacts Google, which sees your IP address when it does.
- Videos. Every moment plays from YouTube, embedded in the page. When a video loads, YouTube (owned by Google) may set its own cookies and collect information under Google's privacy policy. The footage belongs to its broadcasters, not to us.
If you create an account
You need an account to add a moment, name a scorer, correct a time, or vote on whether someone else's contribution is right. This is how we keep the archive accurate and stop it being flooded with made-up goals against real players and countries. When you sign up we keep:
- Your email address, to confirm the account is yours, sign you in, and send messages about your account, such as a password reset. It is never shown on the site.
- Your password. This is handled by Netlify's sign-in service and stored in a scrambled (hashed) form. We can't see it.
- Your username, which you choose and can change. It is shown publicly next to anything you add or vote on, so pick one you're happy for others to see. It can't be an email address.
- If you sign in with Google, we receive your name and email address from Google. We only use the email address, as above.
- A profile picture, if you choose to add one. It's shown publicly with your username. Your browser shrinks it before it's sent, which also removes hidden details stored in the photo, such as where it was taken. You can remove it at any time.
- Your comments, which are public and shown under your username. You can delete your own.
- What you contribute and how you vote, along with when you did it. Contributions are public. Votes are counted publicly, but we don't publish a list of who voted which way.
The newsletter
When you sign up there is a box, unticked to begin with, asking whether you'd like occasional news from Para Football World: things like goal of the month, new competitions in the archive, and projects or products from us. We only email you about these things if you tick that box. Every newsletter has an unsubscribe link, and you can also tell us at privacy@parafootballworld.com. Saying no has no effect on your account.
Why we're allowed to use it
- To run your account and show your contributions: because you've asked us to. This is a contract between us, in the plain sense of the word.
- To keep the archive accurate and safe: in our legitimate interest in stopping spam, false information and abuse. That includes reviewing contributions, hiding ones the community votes down, and blocking accounts that misuse the site.
- To send the newsletter: only with your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
Who else handles it
We use a small number of companies to run the site. They act on our instructions and may only use your information to provide their service to us.
- Netlify, Inc. hosts the website, runs the sign-in service, and stores accounts, contributions and votes.
- Google provides Google sign-in (if you use it), YouTube video playback and the site's fonts.
- Microsoft provides our email, so it holds anything you write to us.
Some of these companies store information in the United States. Where that happens, the transfer is covered by the protections UK law requires, such as the UK–US data bridge or standard contractual clauses. We don't sell, rent or trade your personal information to anyone.
Moderation and blocking
To protect the archive, contributions from new accounts may be held for review before they appear. Anything the community votes down heavily is hidden. If an account is used to add false information or to abuse others, we can block it and remove what it added. We keep a record of blocked accounts so the same person can't simply return.
How long we keep it
- Your account is kept until you ask us to delete it.
- Contributions are part of the archive's record, so if you delete your account, what you added stays but is no longer linked to you: your username is replaced with "former contributor". Your votes are removed. If you want something specific taken down as well, just ask.
- Newsletter consent lasts until you unsubscribe.
- Server logs are kept by Netlify for a limited period under its own retention rules.
- Records of blocked accounts are kept for as long as needed to prevent repeated abuse.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask us for a copy of the information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it, delete it, or stop or limit how we use it. You can also ask for your data in a portable form, and object to how we use it. Write to privacy@parafootballworld.com and we'll reply within one month. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk, but we'd appreciate the chance to put it right first.
Players and people in the footage
The archive names players in connection with matches that were broadcast publicly. If you're a player and something about you is wrong, or you'd rather a moment or your name wasn't listed, contact us and we'll look at it promptly.
Children
You can browse at any age. You must be 13 or older to create an account. If you believe a child under 13 has signed up, tell us and we'll delete the account.
Changes to this page
If we change what we collect or how we use it, we'll update this page and the date at the top. If a change is significant, we'll tell account holders by email.
